Cala Rotja

Although it is increasingly difficult to find a solitary beach in Menorca, especially if you are not ready for a long hike, Cala Rotja still allows you to enjoy a quiet day at the beach. And it is an extraordinary place to swim or dive.

How to get there

Es Mercadal is located in the centre of Menorca, in the main road from Mao to Ciutadella. From there, follow the signs to Cavalleria lighthouse. Drive for 10 km until you see a large parking area on the left, right before a gate in the road. It is the parking lot for Cavalleria beaches, which also serves Cala Rotja.
You have to walk then 250 m towards the outcrop that separates Cavalleria beaches (on your left), and Cala Rotja (on your right). 100 m more and you will arrive to the beach.

The beach

It is a narrow strip of golden sand, 200 m long, but less than 10 m wide. As its name suggest ("rotja" is catalan for "red"), it is surrounded by reddish rocks, where you can get the mud some people like to cover their skin with.
The rocks in the water create a shallow bay, with the water calm and transparent. It is perfect for swimming, and even better for diving between seaweed and fishes.

Facilities

No facilities at all. This is a virgin area.

Nudism

As in most beaches in Menorca, nudism is accepted here, and you will find naked and clothed people carefree sharing the beach.

Links

Other nude beaches in the area

  • Playa de Cavalleria
  • Cala Barril
  • Cala Pregonda

I like:
  • Easy access by car
  • Crystal clear water
I don't like:
  • It can be crowded in the summer

Author & Editor

I have dedicated most of my free time in the last years to discover the world, and beaches offer some of the most stunning landscapes on Earth. The next step was to enjoy them as naturally as possible, which obviously mean without clothes. Now I think it is time for me to share this liberating experience and try to help others to discover it.
