Cala Murtra

Beautiful tiny cove in a unspoilt area in Costa Brava. Secluded, quiet, transparent waters... what more could one ask?

Last visited: June 2017

How to get there

We can drive there using the narrow roads that run along the coast from Cadaques, but the normal way is to go from Roses, just a few kilometres away. From the town, follow the road to Montjoi for 6 km and, after two sharp bends there are small parking areas on both sides, and a path (not for cars) where the way to the cove is signaled.
It is possible to follow that easy path, or to use a shorcut that starts between two wooden poles with the word "NUDIST". You have to walk almost 1 km to the beach.

The beach

Cala Murtra is a little cove made of coarse sand and gravel on the right end, and rocks on the left that go into the water. It isn't easy to walk barefoot. It's only 150 m long and hardly 10 m wide in the centre.
A couple of pine trees in the beach itself offer the only available shade. Water is calm, transparent, perfect for swimming and diving. During the summer, it's normal to find boats moored here.

Nothing between Roses and the beach.

This is a traditional nude beach, but you can expect a mix of nudists and textiles. Someone has written "platja de nudisme" (catalan for "nude beach") in several rocks.

Other nude beaches in the area

  • Cala Nans
  • Platja de Sa Conca
  • Platja de Can Comes
I like:
  • Easy access
  • Unspoilt area
I don't like:
  • Few parking places

I have dedicated most of my free time in the last years to discover the world, and beaches offer some of the most stunning landscapes on Earth. The next step was to enjoy them as naturally as possible, which obviously mean without clothes. Now I think it is time for me to share this liberating experience and try to help others to discover it.
