The northernmost part of the Iberian peninsula facing the Atlantic Ocean (sometimes referred as Green Spain) is integrated by the four Spanish regions that ocuppy the coastal strip lying north of the Cantabrian and Basque mountains along the Bay of Biscay, from Galicia in the West to the Basque Country in the East. The total coastline is 2,493 km long.
It is called "green" because its wet and temperate oceanic climate helps lush pastures and forests thrive, providing a landscape similar to that of Ireland, Great Britain, and the west coast of France. This region has one of the mildest climates in Europe, with little variations between summer and winter. Average temperatures go from 10 to 22ºC.
Tourism development has been slower than in the Mediterranean coast, and so it is still possible to find here many unspoilt beaches and natural landscapes hardly touched by man.

Canavalle
In the whole country, non-sexual public nudity is not forbidden, so technically one can sunbathe naked everywhere. This is why the concept of "official" nude beach does not apply in Spain: all beaches are clothing-optional. In practice, nudism is usually restricted to "traditional" nude beaches. Only in the north coast, there are more than 100 of these beaches where nudism is common.
Below you can find a map with most of the beaches in northern Spain where nudism can be practiced. The name and locations have been checked in several sources, but we cannot guarantee the accuracy in all cases. Please check by yourself the current status of these beaches.
