Portugal, on the Iberian Peninsula, is the westernmost country of mainland Europe, being bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and south and by Spain to the north and east. Its 1.794 km long coastline comprises an area of mixed oceanic climate in the northern half, while in the south the climate is Mediterranean, and even semi-arid in certain areas.
Portugal has around 2500 to 3200 hours of sunshine a year, an average of 4–6h in winter and 10–12h in the summer, with higher values in the south-east and lower in the north-west.

Naturism started in Portugal in the 1920's, but it was strongly restricted during the dictatorial regime. It wasn't until 1977 that the Portuguese Naturist Federation was created, and finally the first official nude beaches in Portugal were designated in 1994. Now there are 8, but many more are traditionally used by nudists (most of them around Lisbon and in the southern half of the country).

Below you can find a map with most of the beaches in Portugal where nudism can be practiced. The name and locations have been checked in several sources, but we cannot guarantee the accuracy in all cases. Please check by yourself the current status of these beaches.

    Author & Editor

I have dedicated most of my free time in the last years to discover the world, and beaches offer some of the most stunning landscapes on Earth. The next step was to enjoy them as naturally as possible, which obviously mean without clothes. Now I think it is time for me to share this liberating experience and try to help others to discover it.
