Tregandin is a very long beach on the Cantabrian coast where, even on the hottest summer day, it's always possible to find a deserted spot where nudists are welcomed.

How to get there

From motorway A-8 take exit 177 towards Santoña and cross the Santoña Marshes Natural Park. Then follow road CA-141 towards Noja. At the exit of this town there is an exit on your right that takes you directly to the beach. This is the textile zone, for the nudist section follow the narrow road that runs in parallel to the beach, which at the end is unpaved. If the beach is crowded, you will have to park at the roadside. You will need to walk a few hundred metres along the beach to reach the area where you can take off your clothes.

The beach

More than 3 km long, more than 100 m wide at low tide, Tregandin is huge. It's made of golden sand, with a gently slope down into the sea. At the back there is a green strip with trees that separate the beach from the road.
A rocky outcrop closes the beach on the east end. Around it some natural pools appear at low tide. They are particular suitable for children to swim when there are big waves, which, as usual in northern Spain, happens very often.
The west side, next to the village, can be sometimes crowded, but the number of people decreases quickly as you move east, and near the end of the parking area you can hardly find anybody sunbathing. It is different on the shore, where there is a constant flow of people walking along the beach.

A few bars, lifeguards... everything is concentrated around the town. Out of there, Tregandin is an unspoilt beach without facilities.

Nudism is practiced on the east half of the beach, beyond the end of the parking area. Most nudists are here; a few hundred metres later the beach is almost deserted until the end, where you can find again some textiles. Privacy, so, depends on where you stop.
Sunbathers usually use the highest part of the beach, far from the surf and the textiles walking along it. It is normal to see people putting on a swimsuit to go to the sea, but others do it in the nude and apparently this is not a problem.

Other nude beaches in the area

  • La Arena (Los nudistas)
  • Arenal de Sonabia

I like:
  • Huge beach, plenty of room for everybody
  • Coexistence between nudists and textiles
I don't like:
  • Lots of traffic and sometimes parking can be difficult

I have dedicated most of my free time in the last years to discover the world, and beaches offer some of the most stunning landscapes on Earth. The next step was to enjoy them as naturally as possible, which obviously mean without clothes. Now I think it is time for me to share this liberating experience and try to help others to discover it.
