To the surprise of unsuspecting tourists in the heart of Berlin, there is a corner in this public park where you can enjoy German summer without clothes only a few meters from the parliament or the presidency of the government. The most central, but just one of the many nudist places in Berlin.

Tiergarten is centrally located in Berlin between the river Spree and the great avenue Kurfürstendamm (Ku'damm), with the celeb Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtnis-Kirche. The main landmarks in Berlin, the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag are also located right on the eastern boundary of the park.

Until the 18th century the Tiergarten (German for Animal Park) was the hunting ground for the Electors of Brandenburg, which has allowed us to keep the immense forest, but rather transformed, that it still is now. Between trees and meadows, roads lead to small lakes and walkways with fountains and statues. Destroyed during the Second World War, the subsequent reconstruction has restored its splendor.
The park is crossed by wide avenues that cross at the Siegessäule, the Victory Column, one of the symbols of this city. The most important nudist area is very close to this roundabout, in a large area without trees in the southeast corner. It is not the only area where you can sunbathe. In almost any clear meadow you can find people taking advantage of the sunny days.

Not many things in the "beach" section. Not even rental chairs, so common in London (though nudism is not possible there). But if we move away from it we can find plenty of places to eat or buy what we need. We're in the centre of Berlin!

The tipically nudist sections is located almost at the foot of the Siegessäule. Although nudity is not compulsory, most people are naked. However, on one of my walks through the park I have been able to find nudists in other parts of the park. Usually, in the hidden end of sunbathing areas, away from walkways. I've never seen problems with textiles, I suppose that in a city as tolerant as it will not be frequent.
I do not know if it's highly recommended, not even if this is legal, but I have also seen once a man swimming naked in one of the little lakes (the one in the picture above).

Other nude areas in the area

  • Schlosspark Charlottenburg, Schlosspark Pankow and Volkspark Friedrichshein (in the city)
  • Wannsee
  • Plötzensee

I like:
  • A nudist area right in the city centre
I don't like:
  • Not easy to be sure if you can be naked there or not

I have dedicated most of my free time in the last years to discover the world, and beaches offer some of the most stunning landscapes on Earth. The next step was to enjoy them as naturally as possible, which obviously mean without clothes. Now I think it is time for me to share this liberating experience and try to help others to discover it.
