Kellys Beach

Kellys Beach is quite close to my idea of the perfect beach, even if not many people would think of Canada to place it. In the middle of a National Park, it is part of a long dune only accessible through a boardwalk that spans the marsh home of a large number of birds.

How to get there

The beach is included in the Kouchibouguac National Park. You have to use road 11 to get there and then take the exit to the park (it's perfectly indicated). After paying at the park entrance (7.50 CAD per person), follow the road across the forest for aproximately 10 km until you reach one of the parking areas.
From there, look for the bar. The boardwalk to the beach starts there. It is 500 m long walk over marshs and a narrow sea channel that separates Kouchibouguac dune from the continent. It leads us to the top of the dune, from where we only need to descend a few metres to sunbathe.

The beach

Kellys beach is a dune made of very fine golden sand that goes down in a gentle slope into the sea. The other side of the dune is covered by plants that obviously have to be respected.
Although there are some towns around Kouchibouguac National Park, you will not find many people here, and most on them in the area around the entry point. The rest of the beach, which is 6 km long, is virtually empty.

Facilities

There are lifeguard and first aid services at the beach, near the end of the path. In the parking area you can find a bar. There are public toilets next to that bar and also in the boardwalk to the beach.

Nudism

I have been there only once, and I have not seen anybody naked. However, many sources (including the Federation of Canadian Naturists) list it at one of the clothing optional beaches in Canada. They say nudism can be practiced if you move south from the main section. I have to admit that I did not walk so far, but considering the few number of people I saw even on a wonderful sunny summer day, I have no doubts it is true.

Other nude beaches in the area

  • Crystal Crescent
  • Blooming Point
  • Kouchibouguac National Park

I like:
  • The beach is part of a National Park, surrounded by amazing forests
  • The way to the beach, accessible but environmental friendly
I don't like:
  • The weather, that only allows using the beach a few days a year

I have dedicated most of my free time in the last years to discover the world, and beaches offer some of the most stunning landscapes on Earth. The next step was to enjoy them as naturally as possible, which obviously mean without clothes. Now I think it is time for me to share this liberating experience and try to help others to discover it.
