Mimizan - Plage Sud

One of the main tourist areas in the Landes, thousands of bathers invade the beaches in Mimizan during summer. Luckily, beaches here are so big that there is always a quiet section where nudism is tolerated.

How to get there

From motorway A-63 take the exit to Mimizan by road D-44. Cross the town following the signs towards Mimizan-Plage (aproximately 5 km). Try to find a place in the parking areas along the beach south of the river that runs across the town, but it may not be easy.
You can use any of the many stairs to go down to the beach. For the nudist section, use the southernmost one, in a natural area that you can reach using a wooden path over the dunes.

The beach

It is just a section of the huge beach that extends along the coast of Landes only interrupted by some rivers. Like in the rest of the region, it is a long straight strecht of golden sand and a line of dunes 5 m high. At this point, it is even wider than usual and absolutely flat.
To the north, the beach extends to the mouth of Mimizan river. In this section this is an urban beach, with a promenade and parking areas on top of the dunes. In contrast to other almost empty beaches around, it is surprising how many people you can find here, to the point that you could say it's overcrowded. However, this is not the case when you move south. Pass the last stairs and the number of sunbathers falls dramatically.
Wind and waves make this beach a perfect spot for acuatic sports, but maybe dangerous for swimming.

There are several bars at the beach promenade on top of the dunes and even at the beach itself. Surf schools, lifeguards, showers and toilets... This is an urban beach in a tourist town, so you can find here almost everything. Nevertheless, none of these things are available in the nudist section.

It can be practiced in, at least, the southern end. Walking south, the distance between people is increasingly higher and you can see a few nudists. The rate nudists/textiles keeps growing up to a point where almost everybody is naked.
This is not a secluded area. On the contrary, it is very common to see textiles walking along the shore, so most nudists put clothes on to go for a dip. However, it doesn't seem to be a problem if you don't do it. I can imagine that this could depend on the day.

Other nude beaches in the area

  • Biscarrosse
  • La Lagunne
  • Arna
  • Contis

I like:
  • You don't need a car, you can just walk there from the town
I don't like:
  • Lots of traffic to arrive to Mimizan-Plage. It takes a long time to arrive, park and leave the town.
  • Neither officially nudist nor remote. It is not easy to know where you can be nude.

I have dedicated most of my free time in the last years to discover the world, and beaches offer some of the most stunning landscapes on Earth. The next step was to enjoy them as naturally as possible, which obviously mean without clothes. Now I think it is time for me to share this liberating experience and try to help others to discover it.
