The name "Playazo" ("long beach" in Spanish) is clear enough. While most beaches in Cabo de Gata are little secluded coves, this one is almost 1 km long and you can reach it by car. No wonder it is overcrowded in summertime. Out of this season, there is plenty of space for everybody (even for nudists) and it is also an excellent starting point to discover this part of the coast.
The beach is located between Las Negras and Isleta del Moro. From Las Negras, you should take the local road ALP-826 towards Rodalquilar. Before you get into this town, take the exit on your right to El Playazo. It is clearly marked. After a few kilometers by a smaller road you reach the huge parking area, just besides the beach. You can also follow an unpaved path to the south and park on the other end.
The beach
As mentioned before, it is one of the largest beaches in the area. Crescent shaped, it is limited on the south by a cliff, and on the north by a petrified dune on top of that there is a castle (San Ramon) which deserves a visit, if only for the views of the amazing coastline.
It is a fantastic beach, with fine golden sand, not too exposed to the wind, and with incredibly clear water. All these characteristics are, of course, common to most beaches in Cabo de Gata.
On the left end, under the way to the castle, there is a little cove only separated from El Playazo by a rocky outscrop. Only 50 m long and 15 m wide and surrounded by cliffs, you can feel there out of this world, just a few steps from the parking area. I loved it, but my experience of a deserted cove (you can see it in the picture above) was in late september. I have seen some photos taken in august, and it is usually full of people.

Facilities
There is a beach bar close to the parking area.
Nudism
The right end, the furthermost point from the main parking area, is known to be the most nudist-friendly section of El Playazo (in Cabo de Gata you can sunbathe au naturel in all but urban beaches). However, I could see some people nude also in the left end, and specially in the little cove, where everybody but a woman were naked. Please note that this was in september, out of the peak season. Things are different in july or august. Don't expect much privacy, this is an open beach, mainly textile, and many people stroll along the shore.
I suppose that the situation for naturists changes day by day, so you need to apply your judgement. With so many options in the area, you will surely find a suitable place.

- Plenty of parking space
- The cove (if you are lucky enough to find it empty), and the strange rocks at the foot of San Ramon castle
I don't like:
- Not the typical beach in Cabo de Gata
