Los Muertos

One of the most famous beaches in Cabo de Gata because of this particular rock on the south end. It is quite long, close to the road, well signposted, with plenty of parking places... A great option for those looking for spending some time in a natural environment but not too far from civilization.

Nude beach Los Muertos (Cabo de Gata, Almeria, Andalusia, Spain)

How to get there
It is 4km to the south of Carboneras. Take the road AL-5106 towards Agua Amarga. When you leave the town you cross an industrial area, a strikingly ugly view in such a well preserved area. There, a homemade signpost marks a dirt track on your left, but it is not the right one to this beach. Follow the road uphill and only 1 km later you reach a crossroad. You can park right there or turn left to a parking lot where the paths to the beach start.
These are 500 m long unpaved tracks, quite easy unless you are carrying things like umbrellas or sunbeds, or specially if you have to push a stroller.

The beach
Surprisingly for me, the shore does not make any curve, 500m totally straight. At both ends the beach is closed by vertical cliffs, while in the center they are back and go down with a gentle slope where the paths are built.
To the south, a rocky promontory extends into the huge rock that makes this beach so different. The sort of a gate created by them lead to a small section better protected from wind. This is the most beautiful part of the beach, because the industrial harbour is the dominant view behind the other end, even if there are a couple of small coves between it and Los Muertos beach.
This is a fine shingle beach, almost coarse sand. It is comfortable enough to sunbathe on a towel, but not for walking, either barefoot or wearing flip-flops. There are only a few some rocks into the water in the right end.

Nothing at all at the beach. Only that the beach is periodically cleaned, but it is advisable to take care of your own rubish.

According to the norm in Cabo de Gata, nudism is perfectly tolerated. It is more practised on both ends, but according to my experience (end of september, very few people), you can find nudists all along the beach mingled with textiles. Being such a celeb beach, you have to assume a larger number of non-nude sunbathers. For a more secluded beach, you have plenty of options around.

I like:
  • Accessible, but still in a natural environment
  • The beauty of the south end
I don't like:
  • The harbour too close to be seen from all the beach
  • The shingles

I have dedicated most of my free time in the last years to discover the world, and beaches offer some of the most stunning landscapes on Earth. The next step was to enjoy them as naturally as possible, which obviously mean without clothes. Now I think it is time for me to share this liberating experience and try to help others to discover it.
