Elafonissi

One of the most spectacular beaches in the world, nudist or not (ranked first in some lists). Its remoteness and the bad roads have prevented the area to become a big beach resort. Instead, only a few guesthouses, so most tourists are only day visitors.
The beach is not nudist, in fact, but crossing a narrow channel of shallow water you get to a sandy islet with several small coves far from anything where you can take your clothes off.

Playa nudista Elafonissi (Creta, Grecia)

How to get there
Fortunately for those who like unspoilt or remote beaches, this fantastic place is a long way from the main towns in Crete. Even from Paleochora the road winds to cross over the mountains and this short trip takes longer than an hour.

Once there, an unpaved road takes to the large parking lot besides the beach. For the nude area you still have to walk to the island and beyond for a while.

The beach
The first we can see is a long sandy beach, something not very common on the south coast of Crete. In the shore we discover the particular pinky tone of the sand, which makes it still more special. This is the "urban" area, with sunbeds or beach bars. But the most remarkable is the sea, absolutely flat and very shallow. You can easily walk to some distant rocks.
The tip of the triangle that forms the beach is the closest point to the island. You need to cross over the dunes through the designated path to preserve the protected environment. The first beach on the south coast is quite similar to the main one, with many people there. However, if you continue along the shore you can find several small coves separated by rocks. The sand still is pink, but the water is even clearer.
The further away you walk, the less people you find. At the end, you will proably be alone, even before you reach the rocky outcrop at the end of the beach.

Services
Although it is not overcrowded, the main area has all the facilities you can expect on a typical tourist beach: beach bars, showers, toilets, lifeguards, sunbeds... However, the island is more natural and there isn't anything there.

Nudism
It is only possible in the island. The part closer to the mainland is textile, but as we move away it is increasingly probable that the few people we come across are nude. There isn't a fix border, and so it is normal to have mixed naked and clothed people walking along the shore.
You can also stay nude in the dunes, but I prefer having to walk to a remote cove rather than hiding in a protected area you shouldn't damage.

I like:
  • Crystal clear water, pink sand, little coves... Only there you can realize the beauty of this place
 I don't like:
  • The road to Elafonissi

I have dedicated most of my free time in the last years to discover the world, and beaches offer some of the most stunning landscapes on Earth. The next step was to enjoy them as naturally as possible, which obviously mean without clothes. Now I think it is time for me to share this liberating experience and try to help others to discover it.
