Playa Quemada

One of the things I like about Lanzarote is how well they have managed to restrict the tourist development to a few areas, while the rest of the island remains untouched. Anyway, it is hard to believe that there still exists a small fishing village with its traditional houses, without hotels, and just a pair of restaurants, next to a charming black sand beach, and only five kilometers away from the main road. That is Playa Quemada.

How to get there
Very simple. Taking the main road LZ-2 towards Playa Blanca, there is a clearly signed detour on your left. At the end of this road, only 5 km later, you arrive to Playa Quemada. The beach starts in front of the houses, but for the nude part it is better to park at the end of the village.

The beach
It stretches to the south of the village, at the foot of a small cliff, and you can still find fishing boats on the beach. It is formed by a mixture of coarse black sand and pebbles, specially in the part next to the village. At the far end, the sand makes a steep dune that you need to climb if you want a flat place to lay in the sand. If you want to swim, you have to be careful with the big waves.

Facilities
There are a few bars and restaurants in the village. In the beach itself, just one shower close to the last house.

Nudism
As in all beaches in Lanzarote out of the tourist areas, nudism is accepted. Even close to the village, I have seen a pair of nude girls taking a shower. The truth is that the wonderful natural environment and quietness invite to strip off your clothes.

I like:
  • The environment, unaltered by the tourism
  • Nudism is accepted with total normality
  • The walking routes along the coast that start here
I don't like:
  • The difficulty to swim in the sea

I have dedicated most of my free time in the last years to discover the world, and beaches offer some of the most stunning landscapes on Earth. The next step was to enjoy them as naturally as possible, which obviously mean without clothes. Now I think it is time for me to share this liberating experience and try to help others to discover it.
